Frozen Myeongju Clams (500g)
Naturally sweet and savory clams with a clean, flavorful broth
Myeongju clams are known for their subtle natural sweetness and pleasantly savory flavor that becomes more noticeable as you chew. When cooked, they release a clean, deeply savory broth, making them especially well suited for soups and hot pot dishes.
Known by several regional names in Korea, including Yeonpyeong clam, Myeongji clam, Galmi clam, and Yellow clam, their standard Korean name is Gaeryang-jogae. They are traditionally considered to be at their seasonal best from January through March, before spawning season.
These clams naturally contain protein, vitamins, and taurine, making them a flavorful addition to a variety of seafood dishes.
🍲 How to Enjoy
Myeongju clams may have a considerable amount of sand on the outside of their shells. Rinse thoroughly under running water before cooking.
Their clean and savory broth makes them excellent for kalguksu (Korean noodle soup) and shabu-shabu. Their naturally mild sweetness also pairs beautifully with pasta, stir-fried dishes, and Korean-style clam soups.
Cooking Tip
Avoid overcooking. Cooking the clams for too long can cause them to lose their pleasantly chewy texture and become tough.
